Australian Education Naplan 2009 Writing Results

The following results show the percentage of students from each State that achieved the minimum education standard in the 2009 NAPLAN tests.

The results also show the average age of students tested, and the number of years schooling that they would have undertaken.

It is important to note that Queensland is the odd one out in all the States, with a shorter period at school for most children in State Schools, and having a younger average age.

Year 3 – Writing
All students had 3 years 4 months schooling except Queensland with only 2 years and 4 months

  • 97.1 % NSW : average age 3 years 7 months
  • 96.6 % Tas : average age 3 years 11 months
  • 96.3 % Vic : average age 3 years 9 months
  • 95.9 % ACT : average age 3 years 8 months
  • 95.2 % SA : average age 3 years 7 months
  • 95.1 % WA : average age 3 years 5 months
  • 93.6 % Qld : average age 2 years 1 month
  • 74.4 % NT : average age 3 years 6 months

Year 5 – Writing
All students had 5 years 4 months schooling except Queensland with only 4 years and 4 months

  • 94.9 % NSW : average age 5 years 7 months
  • 94.8 % Vic : average age 5 years 9 months
  • 93.7 % ACT : average age 5 years 8 months
  • 92.0 % SA : average age 5 years 7 months
  • 91.7 % WA : average age 5 years 5 months
  • 91.6 % Tas : average age 5 years 11 months
  • 89.8 % Qld : average age 4 years 1 month
  • 66.6 % NT : average age 5 years 6 months

Year 7 – Writing
All students had 7 years 4 months schooling except Queensland with only 6 years and 4 months

  • 93.7 % NSW : average age 7 years 7 months
  • 93.7 % Vic : average age 7 years 9 months
  • 93.2 % ACT : average age 7 years 8 months
  • 92.7 % SA : average age 7 years 6 months
  • 91.3 % WA : average age 7 years 2 months
  • 91.1 % Qld : average age 6 years 1 month
  • 88.6 % Tas : average age 7 years 10 months
  • 66.3 % NT : average age 7 years 5 months

Year 9 – Writing
All students had 9 years 4 months schooling except Queensland with only 8 years and 4 months

  • 90.3 % Vic : average age 9 years 9 months
  • 89.6 % ACT : average age 9 years 8 months
  • 89.0 % NSW : average age 9 years 7 months
  • 87.8 % SA : average age 9 years 6 months
  • 86.2 % WA : average age 8 years 0 months
  • 85.0 % Qld : average age 8 years 1 month
  • 83.6 % Tas : average age 9 years 10 months
  • 63.4 % NT : average age 9 years 5 months
