Different Tax Rules apply for individuals who are ‘foreign residents for tax purposes’ in Australia

The 2016-17 Non Tax Resident TAX rates are:

32.5c for each $1 on incomes up to $80,000 per year

$26,000 plus 37c for each $1, on incomes between $80,001 and $180,000

$63,000 plus 45c for each $1, on incomes over $180,000

Examples of this Tax Calculation are:

$40,000 annual income would have tax of $13,000 payable ( 32.5% of total income)
$60,000 annual income would have tax of $19,500 payable ( 32.5% of total income)
$80,000 annual income would have tax of $26,000 payable ( 32.5% of total income)
$100,000 annual income would have tax of $33,400 payable ( 33.4% of total income)
$120,000 annual income would have tax of $40,800 payable ( 34.0% of total income)
$140,000 annual income would have tax of $48,200 payable ( 34.4% of total income)
$160,000 annual income would have tax of $55,600 payable ( 34.8% of total income)
$180,000 annual income would have tax of $63,000 payable ( 35.0% of total income)
$200,000 annual income would have tax of $72,000 payable ( 36.0% of total income)
