Migration Numbers April 2011

During April 2011 there were 11,200 people who stated they were permanent (settler) arrivals to Australia.

This is an increase of 3.9% compared with April 2010, when there were 10,780.

People born in New Zealand accounted for the largest proportion of settlers (21.9%), followed by:
10.1% China
9.4% UK, CIs & IOM
7.2% India

These figures were released by the ABS in the 3401.0 Overseas Arrivals and Departures, Australia. Table 12: Permanent Movement, Settlers, report.

However, those arrivals from the UK showed a decline from 1,200 in April 2010 down to 1,050 in April 2011.
This was a 12.5% decline, compared to the overall increase of 3.9%.

The greatest increase was:
50.92% (830) New Zealand: from 1,630 in April 2010 up to 2,460 in April 2011,

The greatest decrease was:
40.44% (550) India: from 1,360 in April 2010 down to 550 in April 2011.

Annualised numbers show:

12 Months ended April 2010 and April 2011

All: 141,990 down to 125,800 a drop of 11.4%
UK: 15,970 down to 11,170 a drop of 30.06%
India: 16,030 down to 11,190 a drop of 30.19%
New Zealand: 17,660 up to 24,250 an increase of 37.32%
