Surcharges on Credit Card payments in Australia

Credit Card Surcharges when Shopping in Australia

Not everywhere accepts a Credit Card without adding on a surcharge to cover the retailers fees from the Credit Card companies.

Most Supermarkets etc., do not add on extra for those paying by Credit Card, as the cost of credit card use is already built into their pricing, whether you pay by cash or card.
But note: This applies to Debit and Credit card payments

Not every Bank in Australia will issue a Credit Card to a temporary resident, but some do, including the main 4 banks.
eg:
ANZ Bank Credit Card Eligibility Requirements includes this statement:
You’re a non-Australian permanent resident with more than 9 months remaining on your Visa, earning a minimum annual income of $15,000 if applying for an ANZ credit card account.

Credit Card Balances accruing Interest

There is often a lot of talk about Credit Card debt in Australia, and the figure being headlined in Newspaper Reports is often the total of all Credit Card Balances and not the real debt.
How many of us use a credit card to purchase most things, but pay the card off in full at the end of each month, without incurring interest?
Do we call that debt? Is Credit Card debt really $50,897 million or $32,383 million.
