Capital City of Tasmania
The Capital City of Tasmania (TAS) is Hobart. It is in the south of
the state, extending over both sides of the River Derwent. Tasmania is the smallest of Australia's six
states, and is an island lying off the south-east corner of the Australian
mainland.
Population
- The 2006 Census of the resident population of Tasmania was 476,481.
- The 2006 Census of Hobart (Statistical
Division) was 200,525.
- 81.6% of these were born in Australia, 4.0% in England and 0.6% in
Scotland.
- Others included: New Zealand 0.8%, Germany 0.5% and Netherlands 0.4%.
- The median age was 38 years,
- 14.6% of the population were aged over 65.
- Children under 15 years of age totalled 19.1%.
