Minimum Wage Australia and UK

In Australia, the Federal government revises the national Minimum wage every year.

The resulting figure becomes the minimum wage in any state in Australia. However, each State also calculates its own minimum wage that employers must adhere to in that state.

Australia

The current Australian Federal Minimum wage in 2009/2010 is $14.31 per hour, or $543.78 per week.

The current Queensland Minimum wage in 2009/2010 is $14.95 per hour, or $568.20 per week.

United Kingdom

The current United Kingdom Minimum wage in 2009/2010 is £5.80 per hour, although this is rising to £5.93 an hour in October 2010.

Using an average exchange rate of $2 to the £, that £5.80 will be about $11.60 in Australian currency. As at May 2010 the FX rate gives £5.80 at about $9.60 in Australian currency, but hopefully the FX rates will return to normal levels at some stage.
