                                      Hi

Does any one have any advice the best way to tackle getting a employer to sponsor me.I am a landscape gardener self employed for 22 years. My TRA cert has been approved.WE have a permanent visa lodged but our immigratiom company has said to speed up the process to get a sponsor based job, which is not easy being in the uk still.

Any body who has some advice would be great, or even a job would be fantastic.

Unfortunately, when you say, "which is not easy being in the uk", you are right.

It is a case of finding a company, who needs a person with your abilities, that they cannot find locally, and where they are also prepared to do all the paperwork required.

To be very honest I can't see many employers considering you for this, especially based on the fact that you have been self employed for so long.

My own experiences with finding work, after being self employed for many years myself, was very difficult, in both the UK and Australia. Probably due to the fact that most employers would have thought it was temporary until I got going on my own again.

I actually proved this when my wife applied for a government job. I applied at the same time. I was much better qualified and experienced, but my job history was self employed, and she had worked for McDonald's for a year.
We both knew I could do the job better, but I was rejected, and she got the job.

I understand that the above may sound very negative to you, but you may already realise most of it.

What you do need to do, is somehow make contacts with the right people, email landscape companies here, show your interest. Find any forums that may deal with that topic, get involved with them.

Some things to look at, and get involved with:

Then you never know, something may crop up, but at the very least, you will learn more about Australia specific garden related topics.

I do wish you the best of luck, and hopefully with the unemployment rates beginning to drop again, it may not be long before immigration relaxes its policies again, and the time frame returns to normal.
