Private Medical Insurance is held by about half of all Australians.
Premiums are normally based on age, but there is a special provision to hold a persons premiums based on an age of 30 years IF they take out insurance at the correct time, and do not allow it to lapse.

Hi,
I will be 32 weeks pregnant when I arrive in Australia on a permanent residency visa. In the uk I am entitled to free dental treatment and prescription charges with my nhs exemption certificate while pregnant and for 1 year following birth. Is there similar in oz? Buchansinoz

There is very minimal Free dental treatment in Australia, so you will be expected to pay for anything you require, unless you have insurance to cover part of the cost.
This also applies to Children, unlike the UK, there is very little available for Children in the way of free dental cover.
