People living in the remote mining areas of Alyangula and Nhulunbuy earn the highest incomes in the Northern Territory, according to figures released today by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).
Alyangula recorded an average total income of $61,327 in 2007-08, followed by Nhulunbuy with $59,017.
The central city areas of The Gardens ($54,809), Narrows ($54,764) and Fannie Bay ($54,696) round out the top five income areas in the Northern Territory.
Around two-thirds of regions in the Northern Territory recorded average total incomes above the territory average ($45,848). Of these, all but 3 were located in the Darwin metropolitan area.
These data include income from wages and salaries, own unincorporated business, investment, and superannuation and annuities, but do not include government pensions and allowances.
