A report from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, released on 27 May 2011, states that 24% of Australians, aged 18 years and over, were obese in 2007-08.

Another 37% were overweight, with the remaining 37% being of normal weight.

37% of 18-24 year olds were either overweight or obese.
75% of 65-74 year olds were either overweight or obese.

Since 1995, the rate of obesity has risen from 19% to 24%.

The findings included:

In 2008, almost a quarter of adults (24% of men and 25% of women aged 16 or over) in England were classified as obese (BMI 30kg/m2 or over).

These rates varied between different parts of England, with 28% of Females in the West Midlands being Obese down to 21% of Males in London being obese.

The averages for each are appear to be:

24.5% England
25.5% North East
23.5% North West
26.0% Yorkshire and The Humber
23.5% East Midlands
27.0% West Midlands
23.5% East of England
21.5% London
25.5% South East Coast
25.0% South Central
25.0% South West

BMI rates:

Under 18.5 Underweight
18.5 to 24.9 Ideal
25 to 29.9 Overweight
30 to 39.9 Obese
40 and over Very obese
