How Fast do Cars Depreciate in Australia
I’ve always thought that cars hold their value better in Australia than in the UK, with the prices of second hand cars being so much higher, and few really cheap ones, unlike in the UK. Two recent reports seem to still agree with my thoughts.
These are ten examples of Depreciation over the first three years of a cars life.
Top 10 cars that depreciate slowly in Australia
- Subaru Forester Depreciation after three years: 24 – 31% (27.5% ave)
- Toyota Landcruiser Depreciation after three years: 26 – 32% (29% ave)
- Porsche Cayenne Depreciation after three years: 26 – 32% (29% ave)
- Toyota Corolla Depreciation after three years: 27 – 36% (31.5% ave)
- Mazda 2 Depreciation after three years: 27 – 36% (31.5% ave)
- Mazda 3 Depreciation after three years: 31 – 39% (35% ave)
- Honda CR-V Depreciation after three years: 31 – 39% (35% ave)
- Hyundai i30 Depreciation after three years: 33 – 41% (37% ave)
- Honda Jazz Depreciation after three years: 34 – 44% (39% ave)
- Volkswagen Polo Depreciation after three years: 38 – 47% (42.5% ave)

These rates of depreciation, when compared to a UK report for the slowest depreciating cars, shows two things, a lower depreciation rate, and a big difference in the type of car. However, each group does have a Porsche in the top ten, with 29% depreciation for Australia and 44% for the UK, after 3 years.
