Changes to Australian Commonwealth supported places

From 1 January 2018, subsidies for Australian permanent residents and New Zealand (NZ) citizens enrolling in a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) will be withdrawn, making them fee-paying students.
The Commonwealth will instead support permanent residents and NZ citizens through access to income-contingent loans which means that they will not have to meet the cost of upfront fees.

HECS Fee Help and Support While a Permanent Resident

HECS-HELP loans are available to eligible students who are studying in a Commonwealth Supported Place and are Australian citizens.

Since 2005, most New Zealand citizens and Australian permanent residents are not eligible for HECS-HELP loans. They must pay up-front and are not eligible to defer their unit fees to the ATO under the HECS-HELP scheme.

Residence Requirement for Australian Citizenship
